News, Gossip and Rumours from Asterix around the World

Most of these news items are concerned with the international publication of Asterix comic books. However, we try to cover all news of Asterix, including media appearances and new products... but we need your help. Items other than comic translations are presented against a coloured background.

New edition by Egmont Hungary
Egmont Hungary republised Asterix a Gall. Two more are announced: Az aranysarlo and Asterix es a gotok. (1 July 10)
First 12 Greek albums with hard cover
The Greek publisher Mamouthcomix offers the first 12 albums with a hard cover (for the first time in Greece), publishing one album week. Info (in greek) can be found at kathimerini. The translation will be the same, the colors however are repainted. The new print is sponsored by the newspaper "Kathimerini" so for the time being it will only be available at newsagents. (21 May 10)
  Rumours from Hungary
We received a message that Egmont Hungary will republish the first two book of the Asterix series, «Asterix a Gall» and «Asterix, az aranysarló». Probably this will be in a new translation. We are very happy with this new initiative in Eastern Europe and hope that more projects will be revived! (24 March 10)
  Website news
Your webmasters have been very busy with some major improvements for this website. This results in new pages for each translation. The old pages automatically redirect you to the new pages (in case you bookmarked some). Thanks to new PHP scripts it's easy to generate up-to-date thumb overviews, concise tables or a printable Asterix translations guide. You also may have noticed that we have made some minor changes in the list of translations. E.g. Farsi is changed into Persian, Argentinean is now Spanish South America and Brazilian is changed into Portuguese Brazil. According to our list we count 112 translations while the “official” list counts 107, as we include the bootleg editions in Lithuanian, Thai and Sinhalese, the official Greenlandic translation which only appears in a newspaper (yes it's doubtful because there is no real album) and two Chinese versions according to information we found in old Asterix albums. We put a translation on our list when there is proof that albums of a translation are sold on the public market. Thanks to the new way we build our database, we are now able to create check lists like missing translator names or missing motto’s… If you have a suggestion or question, don’t hesitate to contact us. (4 February 10)
google Today 50th birthday
