New parents for Asterix (10 September 11)

It is a hard decision for creators of a comic series: what to do when they retire (or worse). Some decide to stop the series completely, this is what happened in the case of TinTin. Other hand their pens and brushes to younger collegues so the series is continued. The future of Asterix has been discussed for a long time. Finally Albert Uderzo has chosen his successors. Drawings will be by Frédéric Mébatki while the scenario will be developed by Jean-Yves Ferri. Looking forward to the new stories!

Le Tour du Monde (15 July 11)

In the fall of 2009 a scientific meeting was held in Paris on the translations of Asterix, a topic close to our hearts. Recently I received the proceedings of this colloquium that have appeared in 2011 under the title «Le Tour du Monde d'Astérix». A really great book for someone that collects Asterix translations, I must say. The only bad thing is that it stretches my limited school French knowledge a little too far... I got my copy via the Librairie Goscinny, a shop that deserves your (virtual) visit if you value the creators of Asterix. And if you happen to know a tiny bit of French.

Hachette Livre (19 March 11)

The Asterix village now is entirely in the hands of Hachette Livre, the big French pubisher. Entirely? Yes, Entirely. Daughter Uderzo in the past has been resisting to sell her 40% of the publishing rights to Hachette, after that company had obtained the shares of father Uderzo and daughter Goscinny. According to publications in the popular press the parties disagreed on the possible future of Asterix. It is known that Albert Uderzo agrees that younger artists continue the stories of our Gaulish heroes. We hope to see a future reunion, ending with a lavish banquet, not only for the village, but also for the Uderzo family.

Gerard Obelix returns to the big screen (24 November 10)

One of our favourite books, Asterix chez les Bretons, will be adaptated as a movie. Goold old Depardieu remains Obelix. Let's be frank: who could imagine another actor to replace him? He is Obelix. Other details are still being negotiated. Some rumours claim that the movie will be in 3D. Some patience is needed of course, release planned in 2012.
